Another facility for 33 and 76 Home Defence Squadrons Owthorne was classed as a 3rd Class Night Landing Ground and may have been established by the Admiralty in December 1916. The flying field was to the north side of the B1362 Withernsea to Burstwick road opposite Owthorne Grange and comprising of 35 acres giving an operating lengths of 500 yds x 250 yds.
In June 1918 506 SD Flight formed from 251 Squadron operating from Owthorne with DH6. To accommodate this increase in flying activity another 5 acres were requisitioned increasing the flying area to 500 yds x 300 yds. Bessoneaux hangars were erected, tents provided for the other ranks and officers were billeted locally. Owthorpe was then classified as an aerodrome. The DH6s were replaced with Aircos DH9s in November 1918. No 506 ( SD ) Flight left Owthorne in June 1919 for disbandment at Killingholme and Owthorne was closed.
