A 1st/2nd Class Night Landing Ground for 33 ( Home Defence ) and 76 (Home Defence ) Squadron. The site comprised off 33 acres providing a landing area of 420 yds x 380 yds between Bellasize Grange and the LNER railway line from Goole south west of Staddlethorpe junction. References state that the ground was prone to to flooding. The landing ground was opened in April 1916 and finally closed in June 1919.
In common with many other sites of this period Bellasize was later requisitioned by the Air Ministry as a relief landing ground in this instance intended for 4 Elementary Flying School at Brough and opened in November 1939. For much or WW2 Tiger Moths of 4 EFTS were a regular sight in the area. The relief landing ground remained open until July 1945.
