576 Squadron Lancaster Register.

Listed in Order of Serial Number

576 Squadron Lancaster ME800

This list of aircraft recorded in the Flip Book below are those that flew with 576 Sqn and is based on the 576 Sqn and 103 Squadron Operational Record books.

I have logged a total of 131 aircraft. 12 aircraft were transferred from 103 Sqn C Flight to 576 Sqn on its formation.

These are shown in purple with the number of ops they flew with 103 Sqn beforehand.

The aircraft shown in blue is ED888 which first flew with 103 Sqn and then survived its tenure with 576 Sqn and returned to 103 Sqn when 576 moved to Fiskerton in late Oct 1944 ED888 flew several more ops with 103 Sqn before being retired.

Although 4 crews were transferred from 101 Sqn to 576 Sqn at their formation they do not seem to have brought any aircraft. This must be because 101 Sqn were flying specialist Lancaster ABC conversions at the time

All 576 Sqn aircraft ID letters have been shown where known.

The manufacturers of the aircraft are shown and plus the date the aircraft flew its first operation with 576 Squadron and the number of operations flown.

The 576 Sqn Lancasters that were lost on operations or damaged beyond repair are shown as FTR ( Failed to Return) or DBR ( Damaged beyond repair) with the name of the pilot involved.

The 576 Sqn Lancasters that survived the war are shown in green apart from ED888 which was one of the original 103 Sqn intake.

I will return to this list when I have acquired some additional reference material. If anyone has any alterations or corrections to this list please let me know and I will see to it. David Fell.
