103 Squadron Post War.
After disbandment in Dec 1945 103 Squadron was reformed at RAF Gutersloh on the 30 November 1954 as a Canberra unit within No 551 Wing, but was disbanded again on 1 August 1956.
103 Squadron reformed in Aug 1959 with the Sycamore HR.14 from 284 Squadron at RAF Nicosia, where it provided air mobility to the security forces on Cyprus. On 31 Jul 1963 it was split into 1563 Flight (remaining at Nicosia) and 1564 Flight (departed to El Adem) and disbanded.
The very next day, the 103 Squadron number plate was in use again when it reformed from the Whirlwind HAR.10 of B Flight, 110 Squadron at RAF Seletar in Singapore. It maintained detachments at Kuching, Labuan and Kai Tak until it moved to RAF Changi (WSSS) in Mar 1969.
Its final move to RAF Tengah (WSAT) in Sep 1971 was followed by the arrival of the Wessex HC.2 in Nov 1972 and its last Whirlwind departed during Dec. It was disbanded finally on 1 Aug 1975.
Contact with former 103 Sqn personnel from the post war era plus items and photos for use on the site is welcomed .
For either of the above contact David W Fell.
There is a small 103 Squadron Post War Gallery here or click book cover below. I will add pics to this in due course.
I have also produced an RAF Tengah Photo Gallery here. Click book cover below. The photos featured are from 1945/46 and 1975 which make a nice contrast.
