27 January 1943 – 21 OTU, RAF Moreton on Marsh – Vickers Wellington IC – P9240 – Sgt Clifford Clarke RAFVR – Training
Location - 1 mile south of Brigg at Bentley Farm north west of Cadney, North Lincs.
21 OTU Wellington IC P9240 took off from Moreton-on-Marsh for an evening cross country training flight. It is thought likely that the pilot Sgt Clarke descended through the cloud cover in order to establish his position. The aircraft flew very low just missing the railway station and it is possible the pilot tried to avoid a farm and hit a tree. The location is reported as Bentley Farm Cadney 1 mile south of Brigg. Sgt Devereaux-Mack and Sgt Buckingham RCAF rest at Kirton-in-Lindsey, while their comrades were claimed by their next of kin.
All the crew were killed.
